Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
