PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
